Phillippa worked as a dressmaker and
designer until 1988 when she suffered a stroke that severely limited the use of
her right hand side. While recovering from heart surgery, she was given a box
of watercolour paints to aid recuperation and encourage dexterity in her right
hand again.
While enjoying this ‘therapy’ she discovered a
love of miniature painting. Encouraged by her late husband Peter, she found a
teacher through The Hilliard Society of Miniatures and began exhibiting with the
RMS within four years.
In 1997 she won the Alexander Llewellyn Award for
the most outstanding miniature at the Hilliard Annual exhibition in Wells
Somerset.
In 1998 became an Associate member of the RMS,
with full membership following in 2002.
Phillippa’s
rarely works from photographs, being inspired by her Christian beliefs and
humorous imagination, her love of dance, drama, wildlife, costume and music.
